“The Thin Green Line” is a documentary film shot in Israel and the Occupied West Bank in 2010 and 2011 by Alex Goldblum. This film explores the complexities of life in Israel and the Palestinian territories through a blend of cinema verité techniques and montage editing.
On November 29, 1947, the United Nations voted to establish the State of Israel. On May 14, 1948, David Ben Gurion declared independence, leading to the birth of modern Israel and the ensuing Israeli War of Independence. In the 1967 Six Day War, Israel annexed and occupied the West Bank, Gaza Strip, Golan Heights, and Sinai Peninsula. The Green Line represents the border separating the West Bank from Israel.
“The Thin Green Line” delves into the daily lives and political tensions on both sides of the Green Line. As the sound of the Muezzin echoes through the air, the undercurrents of Israeli politics become palpable. The waves of the Mediterranean crash upon the shore, reflecting the enduring spirit of the Holy Land. This documentary captures the essence of life and politics in Israel and Palestine.
